About this deal

The one I use, Surrender to Chance, carries only the current Eau de Parfum version, not the Extrait or Pure Parfum form. Tuberose piqued my interest after I realised that a couple of white floral fragrances I had tried and like contained this note. If those citrus dominated top notes could cut through the oily, teak wood note that floats over Fracas for Men's very cheap smelling base of musk and vanilla, it may have had some balance.

As a very small child of six or seven, and one already obsessed with perfume, there were two fragrances that I loved above all others: YSL’s Opium and Robert Piguet‘s Fracas. Even if you love heady florals, it may be best if you first try a sample, ideally for the vintage version. At times this fleshy, ‘hot skin’ facet of tuberose comes through – and not in a particularly welcome way. Fracas is a 1948 perfume created by French perfumer Germaine Cellier for French fashion designer Robert Piguet. Madonna and Courtney Love have both said they’ve always worn Fracas but I wonder what version and since when?I adore big, bombastic florals in the cold weather, it tames them utterly and makes them so wearable.

However, I do not believe that list to be complete at all, particularly as it leaves out vetiver which is well known to be in Fracas, along with jonquil (otherwise known as narcissus). The question is: will you find it to be the white empress that seduces you, or the black widow that kills you? Piguet commissioned Cellier to create what would become Fracas in 1948, a time when women's fragrance design was a boys' club and her very existence was a novelty, if not an outright assault on 'good' taste. Intoxicating fragrance in Parisian style, known for its refined simplicity, and as an object of desire for women all over the world.I think when people say they don’t like tuberose, this is the kind of interpretation that they mean. As Chandler Burr once said, "There are perfume legends, there are perfumer legends, and then there are perfumes that become obsessions. Even though I had my own bottle of Opium by now, I would often talk with my mother about that “amazing white perfume in the black bottle. On me, it is predominantly tuberose and gardenia, with a touch of green, a base of creamy earthiness and, yes, a strong feeling of a hot body after sex. Cellier had recently formulated Balmain Vent Vert and, for her next act, decided to do something based on the notoriously difficult, dirty tuberose.

To be honest, it was primarily for the Opium which is still, to this day, my favorite perfume in all the world (in vintage version). However , I do agree that Fracas is more similar to Madonna’s Truth or Dare which I actually prefer . I don't know if it is such a good thing, but even me - a person not too big on tuberoses - loves this. You might want to read some of my posts on the EU/IFRA situation to learn more about the way the industry has been handling this or about the specific issues involved.I enjoyed wearing this fragrance and am personally in awe of Fracas for women; yet sadly, I have to agree with AliceBowie that the packaging and mechanism of the bottle could be improved. As the perfume site, Now Smell This, said, “[w]hile Fracas doesn’t feel heavy, it packs a hefty sillage. I know not everyone will love or agree with my choices, but I love choosing which scent I’ll wear to face the day ahead!
