The lens is set flat when using the GH-2, whereas a lens attached to the GH-1 is in an upright position. Benro’s feature packed, robust GH2N gimbal head supports an impressive 25kg which helps with long lenses. To open, simply loosen the locking knob on the bracket base, lift the bracket arm, rotate the arm, mount your camera and you’re ready to shoot! The setting up was straightforward, in just a few minutes the whole thing was mounted on the new Manfrotto 055 and the lens nicely balanced (at full 600mm extension).

The mounting plate that came with it was a little short for my Sigma, the whole thing is secure but it just feels that it's a little too close to the edge. All in all this Gimbal does the job I want well - when I worked out how to put it together and how to adjust the tilt tension! A vertical scale and a 360° panoramic scale allow for easy adjustments and repeatable pans, while a large pivot tension knob enables smooth tilts.

Some further lens axis adjustment can be possible, depending on the spacing of the 2 tripod mounting screws holes on most "professional grade" long telephotos.The GH2 is also compatible with Arca Swiss style quick release plates and Benro PL series special lens plates. You can easily fine tune your camera balance with the plate and arm scales for a smoother, balanced shooting experience. I was initially wary about Benro having heard less than complimentary reports about their GH1 head, and was prepared to shell out for a wimberley, but I found enough positive reviews about this updated version to convince myself to take a gamble.
