About this deal

With the exception of the bass on “Adulthood,” all these differences were extremely minor, but the IE 300 never once gave me anything but stellar sound. Bottom line

The issue with the silicon tips may be a result of a slight warping of their shape, which was the state we found them in out of the box, but this is likely to be an experience that varies user to user, as is often the case with in-ear fit. Both the IE 200 and 300 are effortless when it comes to their soundstages. The IE 300 has the unfortunate place as the first to release out of the two. Since its release, the IE series has only gotten better, and I feel like the IE 200 has superior ability. Both IEMs have similar levels of depth, but the IE 200 goes just a bit wider. The IE 200 feels like it is communicating more room in between each individual performance, and they become more transparent in the mix as a result. Instruments are easy to localize with the IE 300 as well, but the positioning doesn’t feel as intricately layered as the IE 200. These are both two very accurate representations of soundstage, but the IE 200 just appears more transparent and pure, while the IE 300 is a little flatter in comparison. Low EndThe IE 300 offers exceptional durability and comfort, with a design inspired by the world of professional audio. Its ergonomic features include individually adjustable flexible ear hooks for a perfectly secure fit and superb wearing comfort even for long sessions immersed in music.

Listening to Fountains from Jogging House’s 2019 release Lure, the gentle fading in and out of each nuanced timbre appeared more distinct than ever before, but never to the point of feeling apart from the arpeggio bed and other textures that make up the ambient composition. When Sennheiser launched the IE 300 as part of its new line of ‘audiophile’ IEMs earlier this year, it literally flew under my radar. Only recently, following the release of the IE 900 and my subsequent review of that incredible IEM, did I even notice – let alone show any interest – in the baby of the family. The Sennheiser IE 200 is the new wired earphones with affordable entry-level price so everyone can enjoy audiophile quality sound. Music Photo Life The Sennheiser IE 300 are the kind of earphones that the big names don’t make often anymore. They’re a simple, wired set whose focus is entirely on sound quality. My sound signature preference: My preference is to have a great soundstage where the bass is impactful and delivers a punch that I can “feel” but does not over power the rest of the frequencies allowing for me to hear everything. Separation is important as well. The better tuned/balanced sound, the better.

Frequently asked questions

These detachable buds attach to the included cable via gold-plated Fidelity+ MMCX connectors, which allow for a 360-degree swivel of each of the buds as well as the ability to swap out the included cabling to your preferred choice of MMCX compatible cable. I’ve got nothing but high praise for the Sennheiser IE 300. As long as it’s used with the right eartips for your ears, it delivers clean, clear, open, full-bodied sound with superb imaging, and the balance between bass, midrange, and treble is nigh on perfect. Even better, the adjustable ear hooks keep them securely in place, and the detachable cable lets you upgrade to a balanced connection if you wish. Creative Aurvana Trio: the IE 200 has wider sound staging, its treble is more refined and less cooked, Aurvana’s midrange is a little more elevated, sounding a little more fuller, the bass has also more beef. This is fitting to an almost cinematic narrative level because the IE 900 was revealed at the same time as the news that the company's consumer division had been sold offbroke, as per the announced intention to do so earlier in the year. The nature of this sale is not a ‘clean break’ and Sennheiser looks like it will be involved in the development of future product but, until we know how that truly works in practice, what you see here is very likely the last of the Sennheiser home audio division products developed in the ‘old way.’

Are the two exactly the same IEM? I wouldn’t be so bold as to claim so, but there is certainly merit in saying that they’re more similar than different. Both certainly have that Sennheiser V-shape down, so purely in terms of tonality you wouldn’t be missing much going between one or the other. It’s also worth noting that the IE400 Pro is easily my favourite out of Sennheiser’s Pro IEM lineup, so it’s at least nice to know that they haven’t regressed when moving towards the audiophile lineup. Full disclosure: Sennheiser sent me a sample IE 300 for review in exchange for my honest opinion, without any deadlines or expectations. The opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own, so feel free to PM me should you have any questions or comments about your own preferences or experiences. At this price point, it’s clear Sennheiser isn’t trying to directly compete with the more affordable wireless alternatives, nor the industry-level professional in-ear monitoring solutions used by performing musicians and other artists. Construction is excellent, with gold-plated connectors and a kevlar-esque material coating the cables. The same attention to detail is present in the design of the audio components, with some clever engineering allowing for much more of a sense of space than in-ears are often afforded.
